With Teacher Tools, you can assign lessons to students and view their progress. Teachers can assign lessons to the whole class, an individual student, or a small group, making it easy to meet a wide variety of learning needs. Continue reading below to learn...
How to browse for lessons
There are three easy ways to find lessons: browse the Library tabs (Letters, Reading, etc.); assign from the Class Report; or search by standard from the Search tab. Tap directly on an assignment to preview the lesson, select students, and set the date that students will receive the assignment.
1. Browse the Library
Teachers have access to every Pre-K—2nd grade lesson in Khan Academy Kids in the Library. Tap the tabs across the top of the screen—Letters, Reading, Math, Logic+, Books, and Videos—to find lessons for each letter of the alphabet, for numbers 1-20+, patterning, sight words, phonemes, shapes, word problems, and more. Tap directly on any lesson thumbnail to assign.
To access the full range of content, be sure to adjust the dropdown menu as needed. The dropdown menu will allow you to see lessons across grade levels. You'll find it on the following tabs: Reading, Math, Logic+, and Videos.
After adjusting the grade level, be sure to scroll down to view all sections. There is a heading for each section (e.g., Print Concepts, Phonological Awareness, Prefixes) to guide you through the Library. If you haven’t found what you’re looking for, keep scrolling! Or, try our other methods for finding lessons to assign.
Lessons in the Library are labeled according to their level: Main, Practice 1, Practice 2, and Basic. Start by assigning the Main lesson, and then assign the Basic version to students who need extra support, and Practice lessons to students who are ready for a challenge.
Main All students should start here. |
Practice 1 Assign after mastering the Main lesson. |
Practice 2 Assign after mastering the Practice 1 lesson. |
Basic Assign if students need support. |

2. Assign from the Class Report
Go to the Students tab and select Class Reports. Switch to the Class Reports: All Progress option. Lessons are listed on the left side. Open each section until you see options for Main, Practice, and Basic. From there, you can tap Main, Practice 1, Practice 2, Basic, or the lesson title to assign to students.
The All Progress report is intended to show a sequence of lessons that will teach toward each listed skill. Use the filters to change the subject to Math, ELA, or Logic+. If you’d like to see all the domains within a subject, use the small arrows to collapse the fields. In the image below, you’ll see 1st grade ELA domains: Reading Foundational Skills, Language, Reading Literature, and Reading Informational Texts.
Tap the arrow next to Reading Foundational Skills to see sub-domains like Capitalization & Sentence Parts and Short & Long Vowels.

There are skills listed under each sub-domain, like Capitalization and Sentence Parts. The Capitalization skill only has one lesson, so you can tap Capitalization to assign. The skill Sentence Parts has an arrow next to it, meaning there are lessons within that skill. Tap Sentence Parts to find Main, Practice 1, Practice 2, and Basic lessons. Tap the word Main, Practice 1, Practice 2, or Basic to assign.

3. Go to the Search tab to find lessons by standard
Use the dropdown menu to select the set of standards that is applicable to you. Continue progressing through the menu until you find the standard you’re looking for. If you would like to see a larger grouping of standards, you can select the (ALL) option from the dropdown menu. Tap directly on any lesson thumbnail to assign.
How to send assignments to students
When you find a lesson you want to assign, tap the lesson thumbnail. Or, if you find a lesson in the Class Report, tap Main/Practice/Basic. You will see the following assignment dialog pop up.
If you’d like to play through the lesson before assigning, tap Preview in the top left corner. You can fast forward through the lesson if you enable Fast-Forward Button in Teacher Settings. Select the students who should receive the lesson. Change the Date to the day you’d like the assignment to appear on student devices.

How to manage existing assignments
You can manage existing assignments from the Assignments tab or from the Assignments class report.
To manage from the Assignments tab, select Assignments at the top of the screen. You’ll see assignments organized by date. There is a fraction bubble next to each assignment that indicates the number of students who completed the assignment.
The Future Assignments section shows assignments that are scheduled for a future date. The Current Assignments section shows the assignments that students currently see in their view. The Archived Assignments section shows assignments that were sent to students in the past. Assignments are automatically archived after 2 weeks. You can change the archive interval in your Teacher Settings.
From the Assignments tab, you can delete assignments. Tap Delete Assignments, and you will see small “x” buttons appear. Tap the x buttons to delete individual lessons, or an entire day’s worth of lessons.
