How the Learning Path works
When children press the play button on the home screen, the Learning Path cycles through topics like math, language arts, and social-emotional learning. Activities on the Learning Path will progress according to how your child is doing in the app. Children will progress quickly if they’ve already mastered a topic. If they need more practice on a topic, the program will provide them with more practice lessons. Prizes are awarded intermittently based on lesson completion and accuracy.
Eventually, as activities are completed and mastered, all age levels will be served over time. It is important for children to complete activities (instead of homing out) to increase the rate of progression in the app.
How parents can manually adjust the learning levels
If parents feel that the learning level needs to be adjusted in order to increase or decrease difficulty levels, open the Khan Academy Kids app and tap "For Parents" at the bottom of the screen. Swipe to access the Grown-Up section. Tap the student avatar to edit, and use the drop-down menu to adjust the learning level.
How to access different learning levels in the app's Library
To adjust the learning level in the app's Library, head to the Library from the home screen (the purple book icon). The Math, Reading, Logic, and Videos sections of the Library have adjustable learning levels. Use the drop-down menu in the upper right corner of these sections to change their learning level.
How to view progress checkmarks in the app's Library
To view progress, go to the home screen of the app, and then select the Library icon (purple book icon in the upper left corner). Each activity that a child has completed will have a colored checkmark on the activity icon (green for mastered, yellow for in progress, and red for developing).
Checkmarks will show up after your child has completed an activity directly from the Library, or when your child completes an activity on the Learning Path that is included in the Library.
Please note that in the Math, Reading, and Logic + categories of the Library, various learning levels for preschool through 2nd grade are available. You must be on the learning level of your child's user profile to see the checkmarks.
If you cannot see the checkmarks, please check the following:
- Close and reopen the app to activate a progress sync.
- Adjust the learning level in the Math, Reading, or Logic+ tabs to ensure the learning level aligns with the level of your child's user profile.
- Check the user profile you are viewing to ensure it's the intended profile or that a new one hasn't been inadvertently created.
More in-depth progress reports are available in the teacher version of Khan Kids which is also available to parents.
