Step 1: Create a Class Account for the 2021-2022 school year.
Are you brand new to Khan Academy Kids? Download the free app from the Apple, Google Play, or Amazon app store. Or, find us in the Clever App Library. Khan Kids is available on iOS, Android, Amazon, and Chromebook devices. Click here to see how to set up a new account.
If you used Khan Kids with your class last year, it’s time to clear out last year’s roster and add in your new students! Go to the Students tab, select Delete Students, and then Delete All. You’ll want to change your Class Code in Teacher Settings before adding new students to your Class Account.
Khan Academy Kids is now compatible with Clever. If your school uses Clever, read this article to learn how to access Khan Kids with your Clever account. With Clever, your class will be rostered automatically, and students can access the app through the Clever Portal.
Step 2: Show families how to join your Class Account.
Families can join your Class Account with your Class Code, or with their Clever Account information. This video shows families how to join your Class Account with a Class Code. To learn more about how students and families can sign in, scroll down past the video.
If you do not use Clever, you can find your Code in your Teacher Settings. Share your Class Code directly from the app: Teacher Settings > Share Class Code. The app will automatically generate an email with instructions. All you have to do is type in parent email addresses and press send! Alternatively, you can use this handout to show parents how to join with a Class Code in four easy steps. (We have it here in Spanish, too!)

If you do use Clever, families should install the Khan Kids app and select Sign in with Clever in the top right corner. Students will be able to sign in quickly using their Clever username and password, or by scanning their Clever Badge.

Step 3: Start assigning lessons.
Assigning lessons is a great way to focus students’ time in the Khan Kids app. We’ve made it easy for you to find lessons to reinforce key skills that you’re teaching in class. When you assign lessons, students will see a ❤️ that indicates new assignments are waiting for them.
There are three easy ways to find lessons to assign to your students:
1. Browse the Library. Tap the tabs across the top of the screen—Letters, Reading, Math, Logic+, Books, and Videos—to find lessons for each letter of the alphabet, for numbers 1-20+, patterning, sight words, phonemes, shapes, word problems, and so much more. Tap directly on any lesson thumbnail to assign.
2. Assign from the Class Report. Go to the Students tab and select Class Reports: All Progress. Lessons are listed on the left side. Open each section until you see options for Main, Practice, and Basic. From there, you can tap to assign to students!
3. Go to the Search tab to find lessons by standard. There will be a dropdown menu. Use it to select the set of standards that is applicable to you. Continue progressing through the menu until you find the standard you’re looking for. If you would like to see a larger grouping of standards, you can select the (ALL) option from the dropdown menu. Tap directly on any lesson thumbnail to assign.
💡 TIP! Differentiate your assignments
We’ve built features to make it easy for you to differentiate lessons for your students. Any time an assignment is created, it can be sent to the whole class, to an individual student, or to a small group.
Additionally, we’ve made our path to learning visible to teachers. Lessons are clearly labeled according to their level: Main, Practice 1, Practice 2, and Basic. Start by assigning the Main lesson, and then assign the Basic version to students who need extra support, and Practice lessons to students who are ready for a challenge.

Step 4: Use progress reports to make data-informed decisions.
Our progress reports are designed to give you information about your students quickly and accurately. Access progress reports from the Students tab in your teacher view and then select Class Reports.
If you prefer an at-a-glance view of the lessons you’ve assigned, who has completed them, and the scores they received, check out the Assignments report. If you prefer to have a comprehensive view of students’ overall progression in a subject area, head over to the All Progress report. This report combines data from assignments, the Learning Path, and the Library, providing a full overview of student progress so that you can easily identify learning needs.
