Plan a week of learning ✅
Our Weekly Planner is a printable template that parents can use to plan out educational activities for the week ahead, or to check off accomplishments to boost motivation! Visit our Weekly Planner page to download templates for specific age ranges, and to read about tips for boosting learning experiences at home. Planners are available in English and in Spanish. We’d love to hear how this works for you. Share your planners on social media so we can work together on a #StrongStart to the school year.
Set up a workspace 🗒
Plan a flexible workspace for learning just in time for back to school! In this Circle Time video, Teacher Aimee provides ideas on how to make any space conducive to learning. Whether you are learning at home or in a classroom, and Teacher Aimee's practical ideas can make any space a fun place to be productive!
Learn with the Khan Academy Kids app 📱
Our free Khan Academy Kids app covers math, reading, writing, social-emotional learning, and creative play for children ages 2-7. Inside the app, there is a “Learning Path” that covers these topics for kids to experience independently. There is also a “Library” where lessons can be self-selected. The app has recently been updated with parental controls and "Teacher Tools" to focus the learning experience. Ready to get started? Link here to the steps for creating an account, and see the video below for a look inside the app’s Library.
New Zoom Backgrounds! 👩💻
Planning a Zoom meeting anytime soon? The Khan Kids crew has backgrounds for you! Make distance learning fun by using new virtual backgrounds from Khan Academy Kids. Start in the Kids' Club and proceed through every character room in the house. Young learners will love seeing themselves, their parents, and their teachers guest star in the app. Save the images below, or visit our Zoom background gallery for the full selection.
Print worksheets to do offline 📝
Many distance learning options require a device, and we know it’s important to limit screen time. These free printable activities offer an off-screen learning option for families to enjoy. Browse through our offerings to find fun, interactive worksheets on a wide variety of educational subjects.
Enjoy Circle Time with the Khan Kids team! 😃
We recently launched a YouTube channel featuring “Circle Time”, a weekly show with storytime and activities for young children ages 2-7. During Circle Time, children can interact with Caroline and Sophie from the Khan Kids team as they encourage children to read, play, and learn. Don’t miss some of our favorite episodes that include singalongs with Super Simple Songs, workouts with Coach Kelli, and gardening tips with Teacher Sarah.
Love Circle Time? Build a themed week of activities, starting with Circle Time, as we did with Camp Khan Kids!
Watch our parent webinar to help you stay motivated 🏃♂️
Motivation is key, especially during times of change. Watch our webinar discussion with an Early Education Program director at Stanford University on ways to keep children learning and happy at home. Webinar attendees received this downloadable PDF handout with tips for finding learning opportunities at home. Hopefully, you'll find it handy, too!
In addition, these resources (summarized from Khan Academy’s learning team) provide more ideas for motivating students who are distance learning during COVID.
Health & wellness 💗
The health and well being of parents can impact how kids are feeling. Check out these tips for maintaining a positive disposition in the year ahead:
- Meditation - Take a break with guided meditation from Khan Academy.
- Awareness - Learn techniques from the Child Mind Institute to manage stress and maintain a calm demeanor at home.
- Encouragement - Listen to our founder’s message supporting parents in times of change.
