We’re launching 2021 with a colorful addition of books and lessons in the Khan Academy Kids Library. Dinosaur lovers, shark enthusiasts, and Kodi fans will be delighted with the new titles. Plus, animal characters like Crocodile, Narwhal, and Snow Monkey will greet little learners in stories with social-emotional themes.
Growing learners who are ready for a challenge can dive into 2nd grade lessons with word problems, reading comprehension, units of measurement, and more. Teachers can assign these lessons to their students with our Teacher Tools. Keep reading to discover the highlights of our latest app update.
Open the Library to see what's new!
Open Khan Academy Kids and head to the purple book icon on the home screen to access the Library. New activities for second graders are available in the 123, Reading, and Logic+ tabs. There, kids will find lessons to practice word problems, equations, sight words, spelling rules, shapes, time, and measurement.
In the Books section, head to New Non-Fiction to read about dinosaurs, ocean life, and the world’s continents
The Books tab is on the far left side of the app's Library. Scroll down to see all of the new non-fiction material from our friends at Bellwether Media. Kids can travel through time to read about dinosaurs like the stegosaurus and diplodocus. Then, they can take a deep dive with the humpback whale and learn fascinating facts about all seven continents.
Read the latest adventures of Kodi, Ollo, Reya, Sandy, and Peck!
Go kayaking with Peck, learn ballet with Kodi, and gaze at the stars with the whole Khan Kids crew! Our New Early Readers showcase our characters in a variety of settings, while navigating topics like leadership, listening to others, respecting differences, and self-expression.
Meet new animal characters in books about making friends, taking turns, and teamwork
The Stories with Lessons subcategory in the Books section of our Library covers social-emotional themes such as sharing, problem-solving, taking turns, healthy routines, and much more. Cute animal characters like Beluga and Wombat introduce readers to these important areas of growth while covering foundational reading skills along the way.
Solve problems with 2nd grade lessons for older learners
In the 123, Reading, and Logic+ sections of the Library, users now have the ability to select lessons up to the 2nd grade learning level. Once in 2nd grade, learners can practice skills such as solving word problems, sounding out vowel blends, recognizing new sight words, and calculating units of measurement.
