Khan Academy Kids helps children reach their full potential
Our goal at Khan Academy Kids is to help as many children as possible reach their potential and early learning milestones.
Interactive, bite-sized lessons from 5 to 20 minutes per day
Our comprehensive educational app is designed for children to experience interactive learning, with bite-sized lessons for 5 to 20 minutes per day that intentionally support parent-child interactions and follow screen time guidelines for various stages of child development.
Each lesson offers a variety of activities such as speaking aloud, singing, drawing, dancing and reading books, in addition to manipulating objects on a screen to support early learning in math and language arts.
Get moving with motor development activities
There is also a motor development section inside the Library of Khan Academy Kids that encourages children to put the device down to get up and move around like animals in the zoo, whether it’s to stomp like an elephant to waddle like a penguin!
Co-play with parents and family
Khan Kids is a great platform for parents to co-play with their children as they read books together and create learning activities with resources developed by teachers and childhood experts from the Stanford Graduate School of Education.
Set screen time limits using the settings on an iOS or Android device
For parents who are interested in setting screen time limits with their kids, we encourage using the family-friendly tools and settings on the device. For Apple's iOS devices, check out the the Guided Access feature in Settings. This can be found in Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access. This feature will keep the device on a single app with the option to set a time limit for use on a specific app. To set a time limit, activate Guided Access with the Khan Kids App and then select Options > Time Limit.
For Android devices, check out the Family Link app which can manage a child's screen time with features such as daily limits and bedtime schedules.
Families have found these tools to be very helpful for setting screen time expectations with their kids.
