đź“š Join the Khan Academy Kids Reading Challenge! đź“š
March is National Reading Month, and we want to help kids get excited about reading! We’re throwing a Reading Challenge that will encourage kids to spend more time reading this month. If you’re a parent or teacher of kids ages 2-8, consider yourself invited! Jump down below to get all the details.
Joining the Challenge is easy. Encourage kids to fill out this reading log with the books they read in March. Print out extras if you need to! Snap a photo of completed reading logs at the end of the month at the end of the month and submit it here to enter our book giveaway.
You can bring out the joy of reading by highlighting books in your daily routine. Maybe it’s an extra book at bedtime, or a sleepy-eyed storytime first thing in the morning. Regardless, this can be a time of extra snuggles and quality time together.
And teachers, now’s the time to rally your class around an exciting, motivating goal. Fill out the reading log as a class, and your students will never let you miss a post-recess read aloud. Or, if you teach older students, print out a reading log for each student and let them race to the finish line!

This challenge is hosted by Khan Academy Kids, a free mobile app with hundreds of educational activities brought to you by Khan Academy. Designed for learners ages 2-8 to use at home or in a classroom, Khan Kids is a treasure trove of books, games, educational videos, and more. Learn more about us here.
FAQs
My child/students can’t read yet. Can they participate in the Reading Challenge?
Yes! The Reading Challenge is for kids ages 2-8 (and their siblings). Whether they’re two years old and still learning not to chew on books, or are already reading chapter books on their own—all are welcome. Similarly, if kids can’t write yet, you’re welcome to fill in their reading log for them.
I’m a teacher. Can I participate?
Yes, we’d love for preschool-2nd grade teachers to participate in the Reading Challenge. There are a few different ways you can do this with your classroom. You can print out just one reading log and fill it out together as a class, maybe after your daily read aloud. Or, you can print out a copy of the reading log for each child. They can write the titles of books they’ve read or listened to until their reading log is full from top to bottom. (This option is suggested for older students, as little ones will need help writing the titles.) Either way, snap just one photo of your reading log(s) and submit to win prizes for your class. For more details about the giveaway, click here.
How many books do I need to read to enter the giveaway?
Please read 15 books to fill in your reading log before entering the giveaway. But of course you can always read more! For more details about the giveaway, click here.
How do I enter the giveaway?
Take a photo of your student or child holding up their completed reading log. If you’d rather just snap a picture of the reading log by itself, that’s okay too. Then, upload the photo to this form.
If a student fills out multiple reading logs, do they get to enter the giveaway multiple times?
No. While we encourage kids to fill out multiple reading logs to keep the fun going all month long, please only submit one to the giveaway. We do have an extra giveaway opportunity for children who read our new book series titled “Reading Adventures" (available starting March 1st, 2024). Keep reading below to learn more.
You mentioned an “extra giveaway.” What’s that all about?
You can enter a second giveaway if you read the ten new books we just released in the app. They’re located in the Books tab. You’ll find them at the top labeled “Reading Adventures" (available starting March 1st, 2024). As your child reads them, a green check mark will appear next to each book in the library. Take a photo of your child holding up their iPad (or smartphone, tablet, Chromebook, etc.) with all those checkmarks displayed prominently, and then upload that photo here! If you’d rather take a photo or screenshot of the device by itself, that’s okay too.
How do I keep goblins from coming into my bedroom??
Sorry, we can’t reveal the details of goblin portholes. For more information, read the book The Trashlands in the Khan Academy Kids app or on YouTube.
