Hello, campers! đź‘‹
This is Lorraine from the Khan Academy Kids team, and I’m the camp counselor at Camp Khan Kids—our virtual summer learning program for children ages 2-8. We’re about to embark on an incredible journey, and I’m so excited to team up with your little ones to help them read, learn, and play this July. Please read this letter so we can all get ready for camp together!
Save the date for July 3rd
Our first week of camp (Water Week) is starting on Monday, July 3rd. Save the date by marking it down in your calendar or by setting a reminder on your phone. You won’t want to miss Peck’s splashy debut!
Sign up to receive the emails, and tell a friend!
We’ll send an email every Monday in July with our camp activity schedules and I don’t want you to miss them. Make sure you and your friends have signed up here. If you don’t get the email, bookmark our camp web page where everything will be posted. PRO TIP: Eager parents can spy on the web page in advance to get early access to the schedules and printable packets.
Download the free Khan Academy Kids app
During camp, we use the Khan Academy Kids mobile app as a launchpad into hands-on learning. Please download or update Khan Academy Kids by July so you’re all set to go with our camp lessons. Khan Academy Kids is 100% free, just like this camp!
Save your artistic recycling
During camp, we’ll use recycled materials like cardboard, paper, boxes, jars, nature objects, and anything else that’s lying around for building and making. Campers can start saving those things now. This “art recycling” collection can power your summer, and our art show from last summer was a blast! For example, during the first week, we’ll be decorating mermaid tails, drawing baby sharks, and making an aquarium in a bottle.
Get ready to read (and print)
Because we blend online lessons with offline activities, there are details to read each day. The camp web pages are designed to help you follow the daily schedule with activity descriptions that you can mix and match at your own pace. This means that parents have some coordination to do between the web page, the app, and the printables in order for the camp to flow smoothly. Thanks in advance for following along.
Feel good, because together we’ve got summer covered!
I hope caregivers like you will be able to enjoy summertime just as much as your kids. As a parent myself, I recall wondering how I would manage several months of open-ended schedules. Somehow I did it, but not without help, planning, and inspiration from friends. Camp Khan Kids is designed to provide some of that support.
Spread the word!
As part of the nonprofit Khan Academy, we’re on a mission to provide free education to little learners everywhere. Please help us spread the word by sharing Camp Khan Kids and Khan Academy Kids with your friends. Thanks for your support!
See you soon! đź‘‹
